ROO'S AND ROOFTOPS

The past few days have been full of orientation sessions, enrolling in classes, and getting to experience more of Melbourne! One of the highlights of my week was seeing my first kangaroos!!! yay they are so cute. Below is a picture from my uni's wildlife sanctuary where there are kangaroos and some other random animals. Sorry aunt buddy no koalas yet but I'm working on it for you :) Sadly it started raining during the wildlife walk but my group of friends made friends with the sanctuary manager who gave us free beer that he brewed himself. As you all know I hate beer more than anything but felt rude not drinking it or making gross faces after taking a sip so I took one for the team and it was awful but in Aussie land you just don't turn down a free drink for the sake of your bank account!

Friday night a group of my new friends (mostly American and Norwegian) girls took a short tram trip to the middle of the city to meet up with our friend from Denmark who has a apartment in the city and let me tell you its the best apartment I've ever seen and I am sooo obsessed with it. The skyline picture below is a picture from her freakin patio! Needless to say I will be there a lot. We then went to an Italian restaurant called Medici which is right on the bay. It was also beautiful but would have been a lot more enjoyable without the rain! It is definetly a place we will revisit because it has lots of restaurants on the water front. We then went to a club that had 4 levels, and the top floor on the rooftop was by far my favorite. It was another beautiful skyline view and although the drinks were horribly expensive I at least was able to get another free drink from some Kiwi's (New Zealand natives) who were very interested in hearing all about North America.
When it was time to go home...thats when the adventure really started. Me and my fellow TN friend Julie got somewhat lost trying to find the tram and I swear every person we talked to sent us to another wrong place. We ended up missing the last tram of the night and thought we were gonna have to sleep on the street (lol) until some nice aussie guys invited us to McDonalds (classy) and then said they were heading halfway to Bundorra (suburb where uni is) and would pay for the first half of our cab so it wouldn't be a 70 dollar cab ride home. While I'm sure this whole story sounds shady, Australians truly are just genuinely nice people and Victoria (state of Australia I'm in) is one of the safest countries in the world so dont fret.
Today was the international Amazing Race in the city but it rained all day so after about 30 miserable minutes my Norwegian friends and I said screw it and went to a cafe and talked then went home. I seriously love hearing the Norwegians talk as much as the Australians and they are all so nice. Also I learned that a lot of areas around Norway and Sweden pay for peoples college tuition as long as they dont fail out....so Amurica help a sister out and give me a free education ha ha. My mind is still blown by that.

BEST NEWS OF THE WEEK: SIGNED UP FOR A SURF TRIP at great ocean road. Google it and your mind will be blown. My trip is with the La Trobe surf club and is the 9th of August. yeeee yeee
